It's been a long time since I wrote anything. Last time I posted, I was mentioning how "different" I was and all the suspicions that people had about my oldest son. Well, we got an answer not too long ago. He's autistic. It was a shock when I heard the psychiatric psychiatrist say this, but after much testing, his is what all the specialists said he had - autism. You can't imagine how it is for a parent to hear this. I was numb and then I couldn't stop crying. My husband didn't react, but later that night, he did and he was upset and mad (more at himself than anything else). I think he was blaming himself and so was I. But the fact is, that this is the way he is and always has been. My little Patrick's brain is just wired differently.
I talked to many people and did many searches on the web and I was pleased to see that my son was VERY good considering his new-found "disability" (what the government says he is). He talks well enough to be understood by most, he understands his needs, he can take care of himself (get a snack, prepare a bowl of cereal, go to the washroom, etc.) and he likes other kids and is very anxious and happy to be starting "big" school!
Last time I posted, my little guy was only 3 years old. He is now going to turn 5 years old in just 2 weeks! I can't believe how fast time goes by! He is doing well and is starting to make good friends. He can't wait for school to start! He got to pic k out his school bag and lunch bag yesterday and he was SO happy! He wanted orange, and he got it! He LOVES the colour orange and red! He even wanted a red bathroom (along with red toilet, sink and bath of course!) I guess those colours are nice and bright and stimulate him!
So for the moment, my not-so-little man is doing great, spending his last few weeks of being a preschooler at home with me and his little brother.
Now about my youngest...
I always call him "ma petite puce" because he's such a tiny little thing! He's 2 years and 9 months, but he's not even his brother's size when he was 2! The little thing is still wearing 18-24 month clothing! He's tiny, but he has a HUGE personality to compensate! Can anyone say "terrible twos"?!!! He's the cutest little thing though with big dimples and bright blue eyes! And he's a talker! He hardly ever shuts up! He learnt French (his first language) and is now on to learning English! He loves to talk so so much that he even talks in his sleep! Often! He's a cutie-pie!
So that's my life with my kids at the moment! I will be back soon to write about my new journey in the "extreme couponing" world!
